Otava ("we", "the app") is a travel planning app. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what we do with it. Short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the app, we don't sell your data, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

What we collect

Account information

When you create an account we store your email address (and, if you use Sign in with Apple, the identifier Apple provides). We use it to sign you in and to sync your data across devices. Authentication and storage are provided by Supabase.

Your content

Trips you save (destinations, dates, generated itineraries) and expense groups you create (member names you enter, expense entries) are stored so you can access them later and share expense groups with your travel companions. Expense group members you add are names you type — we do not access your contacts.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat to validate your subscription status. We never see your payment details.

What we do NOT collect

• No device location — you type your destination cities yourself
• No contacts, photos, microphone or camera access
• No advertising identifiers, no cross-app tracking, no analytics profiles sold to anyone

Third-party services we rely on

• Supabase — authentication, database and secure API proxy
• Google Places — real place data (names, ratings, photos). Your city searches are sent to Google through our server; your identity is not attached to them
• OpenAI — generates short itinerary notes from place names and city names only; no personal data is sent
• RevenueCat & Apple — subscription management

Data retention & deletion

Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in Profile → Delete account; this permanently removes your account, trips and expense data from our systems. You can also export your data from Profile → Export my data.

Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with per-user access rules (row-level security). API keys for third-party services are kept on our servers, never in the app.

Children

Otava is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

If this policy changes materially, we'll update this page and the date above.

Terms of Service

• Service. Otava generates travel suggestions from third-party data. Places, opening hours, prices and availability can change — always verify critical details (tickets, hours, reservations) before you rely on them. Otava is a planning aid, not a booking service.
• Subscriptions. Otava Premium is an auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly) billed to your Apple ID. It renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel anytime in your App Store account settings.
• Acceptable use. Don't abuse, reverse-engineer or attempt to disrupt the service.
• Liability. The app is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages arising from travel decisions made using the app.
